W.R. Benton's Book "WAR PAINT"
Howdy and welcome to WR Benton's site. WR Benton. is a much published author of historical, western, and outdoor genre. You'll find books on mountain men, army scouts, bounty hunters and many others on this site.
From author W.R. Benton
"I write of a period of American history when the west was wild and untamed. It took hard men and woman to make a life out west and they had little time for nonsense or foolishness. It was a constant struggle to stay alive, with Indians, critters, sicknesses, and the weather out to kill you. Tough men and women were required to do the job and 'dandies' didn't live long, but there was no assurance even the hardest of folks would survive.
I find the period of 1820 to about 1880 as the most interesting, with the fur trade, civil war, and Indian wars to be the most interesting to write about. I cannot image living during the period, although I write of it, because the hardships the people must have endured. My great-grandmother lived from about 1859 to 1962 and she used to tell me stories when I was a child. For an old woman, her mind was sharp and she often told me of the James Gang, the Civil War, or other interesting tales of the west. I think, from what I heard her say, she was in love with Cole Younger, but she never stated that.
I dedicate my historical and western fiction to my great-grandmother, Nancy Buck, a rough old woman who lived during times I can only dream of."

" War Paint is a blood-thirsty brutal book. It is an uniquely American part of darkness tale. It will disappoint those who seek the triumph of good over evil. Outstanding."
